Gun Safe/Storage:
At times the NYPD requires you to send them pictures of your safe. One of the entire safe and one when the door is open to see the contents inside. Usually if you own 4 or more guns. Some investigators will request for these pictures even if you have only 1 or 2 firearms. It depends on the investigator. These pictures cannot be stock photos from the manufacture or a website. They need to be your images that you took.
Even if they may not require it, you should invest and get a safe. It is for the safety of yourself and your family.
There are the 4 basic and very important rules for firearms:
Good luck, keep yourself safe and vigilant and see you at the range. Training and constant practicing is a MUST for everyone that owns/carries a firearm.
Why NY TAC DEFENSE and not US Law Shield or the USCCA?
Unlike most self-defense plans on the market, the NY TAC DEFENSE Program is NOT backed by any insurance company. The Self-Protection Plans are administered by a law firm.
Also, it’s one of the only options available to New Yorkers.
Many of these companies that offer concealed carry insurance say they can provide significant financial assistance in the aftermath of a self-defense shooting. However, because they are backed by insurance companies, they will likely have EXCLUSIONS in their policies that allow them to DENY coverage.

Traveling with firearms on a plane
Traveling with firearms on a plane in the United States is subject to strict regulations and guidelines set by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and federal law. Here are some key points to keep in mind:
Firearm Transport Requirements: If you wish to travel with a firearm, it must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided container. The firearm must be stored in checked baggage, not in your carry-on luggage. Ammunition must also be placed in its original packaging or a secure container, separate from the firearm.
Before Leaving to the airport: Check the airlines’ and the airport websites for their procedures. Each airline and airport have slightly different procedures. Inspect your luggage before packing. Make sure there are no loose ammo or other items in your bag or secured lock box. Unload your firearm, and inspect that it is empty. Remove all the ammo from the magazines and place them in their original packaging. Review the laws of the destination state that you are traveling to, to see if for example they have a magazine limit - make sure to only take a magazine that is in compliance.
What to expect: Longer check in process. You might be sent to the TSA office. You will need to fill out a form. Upon arrival at your destination, your luggage might not be on the regular baggage carousel, it might be at the oversized luggage area, or the airlines lost & found office. Give yourself extra time and stay calm.
Ammunition Limitations: There are limits on the amount of ammunition you can bring. It must be in its original packaging or a secure container. Check with your airline for their specific rules regarding ammunition.
Declaration: You must declare your firearm at the airline ticket counter when checking in your baggage. It is illegal to attempt to bring a firearm through security checkpoints in your carry-on luggage. Best rule of thumb, arrive to the airport early. You cannot do curb side check in. You must go to the regular check in counter. Inform the airline employee that you have a firearm to declare in your check in baggage. Do not state "I have a gun". They may get the wrong idea. Every airline has different procedures. Review their website. Some airports have different procedures as well.
Laws Vary by State: It's important to be aware that gun laws vary from state to state. While federal regulations set the minimum standards for firearm transportation, you must also adhere to the laws of the states you are traveling to and from. Some states have stricter regulations and may require additional permits or have different rules for carrying firearms.
License and Permit: You must have a valid firearms license or permit to transport a firearm. Meaning, that as long as from your origination point and the final destination point you are licensed. For example, if you are traveling from NY to FL, you must have a valid CCW from NY and in FL.
Locked Container: The hard-sided container that holds the firearm must be locked to prevent access. Only you, the passenger, should have the key or combination.
Concealed Carry on a Plane: Under no circumstances are you allowed to carry a concealed weapon on your person while on a commercial flight. Firearms must be securely stored in checked baggage.
It's essential to thoroughly research and comply with all federal, state, and airline-specific regulations before traveling with a firearm. Failure to do so can result in legal consequences, including fines and possible criminal charges. Additionally, airline policies may vary, so check with your specific airline for their firearm transportation rules and fees. Always prioritize safety and legal compliance when traveling with firearms. The TSA is known to have heavy fines for having something prohibited when passing through security in addition to legal fees and possible incarceration. Be careful and double-check your bags, pockets etc.

Traveling with firearms in your personal vehicle
Traveling with firearms in your personal vehicle in the United States can be subject to both federal and state laws, and the specific regulations can vary from state to state. It's crucial to be aware of and follow all applicable laws when transporting firearms to avoid legal issues. Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind:
Check State Laws: Before traveling with firearms, research and understand the firearm laws of the states you will be passing through and the state of your destination. Some states have strict regulations regarding firearms, magazine capacity, and ammunition.
Thanks to one of the best presidents in recent history, the late Ronald Regan, he passed a federal law that allows for interstate traveling with a firearm. Meaning, as long as you’re legally able to posses a firearm from your origin state AND your destination state, you may transport your firearm. For example, you are licensed in NY and traveling to FL. If you are passing a state that you are not allowed to posses your firearm, for example South Carolina, in that state your firearm must be unloaded and locked, and the ammunition should be stored separately from the firearm. Firearms should be secured in a locked container, such as a gun case or safe, and placed in the trunk of your vehicle. If your vehicle doesn't have a trunk, the firearm should be in a locked container out of reach and not easily accessible, like the back seat.
Transporting Across State Lines: When crossing state lines, you must adhere to the laws of each state. Some states may have specific rules for transporting firearms, such as requiring them to be locked in a case or disassembled.
Transporting Ammunition: Regulations regarding the transport of ammunition can also vary by state. Be sure to check whether there are any restrictions on the amount or type of ammunition you can carry.
Notify Law Enforcement: Know the local laws, some states have a 'duty to inform' some don’t. If you're pulled over by law enforcement, it's often a good practice to inform the officer that you have firearms in the vehicle. Follow their instructions and keep your hands visible and away from the firearms.
Local Regulations: Be aware that some cities and municipalities may have their own regulations regarding firearms transportation. Research local laws if you're traveling within a state.
Hotel Policies: Check the firearm policies of the hotel where you plan to stay. Some hotels may have specific rules about bringing firearms onto their property. It's crucial to respect their policies, which may include requiring you to store your firearms in a designated secure area, like a hotel safe or a locked vehicle in the parking lot.
Ignorance of the law is not a valid defense, so it's crucial to be well-informed and adhere to all applicable rules when traveling with firearms.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
I am prepared, I got my CCW
Great. You exercised your 2nd Amendment right to self-defense and took the NYS 18 hour mandatory class, and now you carry your firearm and feel protected.
I hate to bust your bubble!
Unfortunately, the class that you took did not prepare you AT ALL! Yes, you heard about all the laws of where you can, and where not you can carry, the use of force, etc. etc.. IT did NOT teach you HOW. Let me explain.
You go to the range and feel that you got this. You can shoot the bulls eye from 25 yards. You consider yourself a pro. WRONG! There is a HUGE difference from standing in a safe environment, and your opponent is a paper target VS being faced with a threat to your life that warrants you to use your firearm in self defense. This skill can only be obtained if YOU TRAIN, and TRAIN and TRAIN. Taking a few (mandatory) courses is not sufficient.
PLEASE, PLEASE, take classes, find a school, find an instructor that you can trust and take this seriously. Be prepared to spend many hours to become a RESPONSIBLE CCW holder, and gain the knowledge, the skills and the confidence to be prepared in the event that YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT!
Ignorance is the root of misfortune!
